Don’t Lose Your Heads

(Lyrics: A. Stainer and A. Hunt. Music: A. Stainer)

Bombs are bursting in the air / captain orders all hands to deck / the bravest men are ready to fight / Rocket’s red glare lights up the night / scurvy dreck mounts the bow / their fates sealed with sharpened knives

Superior skills of our privateers / gave proof that our flag -  was still there / by the dawn’s early light / Cannonballs strike the warship’s bow / Cutlass clash - friend and foe / The plunder dashed of ale and arms

They think I’m a pirate, but I wear a disguise / I’m taking on the role of what I do despise / I am sworn to the Queen and she gave me a commission / To steal the privateer’s ship on a secret mission / She ordered me to use all my gall and charm and cunning / But even as a Pirate, their clipper has us running

Our enemies, that cowardly lot / those not killed in clear retreat / will clearly dance the “hempen jig” / They’ll lose their heads
